To mark the ending of the World War One centenary, the House of European History has joined forces with Europeana for a very special series of events designed to look back at four years of commemorations across Europe and showcase the Europeana 1914-1918 crowdsourcing projects. The events are open to anyone who wants to learn more about the history of the war and how people across Europe remember it.

Participants can do so by visiting the House of European History’s permanent exhibition gallery on WWI history, showing the European and global dimensions of the first industrialised mass war. There will also be an exclusive display curated especially for the event, including both Europeana 1914-1918 campaign objects and artefacts from the House of European History collection.

Two roundtable discussions will give the opportunity to hear from and ask questions to experts from a wide range of fields, from memory organisations to academia. The first one, Reflecting World War One Remembrance, takes place on Tuesday 27 November at 18.00. The second one, From the Trenches to the Web, takes place on Wednesday 28 November at 11.00.

On the afternoon and evening of Wednesday 28 November the closing ceremony and reception will include a one-off performance of music from the war period played on a violin collected during Europeana 1914-1918, a presentation of a brand new video game based on real events and stories collected in Europeana 1914-1918 and the awarding of prizes to students who transcribed handwritten texts from the First World War online by Commissioner for Digital Economy & Society Ms Mariya Gabriel.
