Europeana Migration Collection Day - Brussels
As part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, Europeana and the House of European History are inviting people young and old to help build an online collection dedicated to migration, to tell an important story - the story of Europe and the people who live here.
The event will take place between 15 and 17 March at the House of European History.
We all have objects that tell the story of where we’ve come from and what’s shaped our lives. For many of us that story involves a personal or family story of moving from one country to another. Our cultural heritage shows us that the Europe we live in today is the result of that flow of people and ideas, which enriches our everyday lives in many ways.
We can wear jeans from Nîmes, with a MacDonald clan tartan scarf and a Moroccan Fez hat. We can listen to opera, hip hop, classical or soul music. We can get an Indian curry to eat tonight as easily as a Greek mezze or an Italian pizza.
Throughout the European Year of Cultural Heritage, people will be able to share their family stories and objects at a series of events held in partnership with migration museums across Europe to help build the Europeana Migration Collection. Where people can’t attend the events they will be able to contribute online.
All of the content on the site will relate to migration and, from photos to films and letters to artworks, it will tell the stories of the people who have journeyed to, from and across Europe, uncovering the contribution of migration to our cultural heritage.
The items in the Collection will be freely available for anyone to discover and use for education, research, inspiration and pleasure. The Collection will build throughout the Year.
The House of European History is the first museum to invite people to share their personal migration story with an object that illustrates it, at the kick-off Europeana Migration collection day event at:
The House of European History from 15-17 March at Rue Belliard / Belliardstraat 135, 1000 Brussels, Belgium.
15 & 16 March 09:00-17:00, Saturday 17 March 10:00-17:00
