It is one of the missions of the House of European History to collect objects and document the development of the European Union (EU) and EU institutions.
As such, during spring 2019, curators from the museum contacted European Parliament Liaison Offices (EPLOs) from EU Member States and, political factions in the European Parliament for support in identifying and collecting material in relation to the European Parliament elections in 2019. There was also an appeal for three-dimensional objects, due to their specific impact when on display in the museum.
Representatives from EPLOs and political groups in the European Parliament also provided objects from diverse projects created in collaboration with local communities and schools. Some objects also originated from previous European elections´ campaigns.
Curators were particularly interested in receiving:
- promotional materials from the 2019 electoral campaign including posters, leaflets, stickers, pennants, badges, gadgets, t-shirts, ballot papers.
- original personal objects such as protest banners, anti-EU movements, demonstration materials and more.
Overall more than 200 objects from the majority of EU member states were acquired and became part of the House of European History Collection
