Family Day at our House
The House of European History aspires to become for one day the home and the learning playground of families that will visit its premises on Family Day, on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022.
On the day, the museum will launch two new discovery trails -a Spy Trail and a Family Highlight Trail- and its updated and expanded Family Discovery Space.
On the Spy Trail, the young visitors will be given an instruction booklet and a bag with tools to crack a code and discover museum objects relating to espionage. The Family Highlight Trail will offer the children an opportunity to discover other interesting museum objects. Upon spotting them, the children will engage in an activity relating to the discovered artefacts.
The updated Family Discovery Space provides for 'time-travel,’ through which kids experience history through role-play games, walk in an astronaut’s shoes and grapple with robots. For the first time, at the museum’s ‘Travel Agency’ there will be an audio-visual animation.
On the day, visiting families will have a say on the new picture that will hang above one of the museum’s discovery spaces. Voting stations will open and the children will be asked to decide which one of three photos relating to commerce is the most appropriate for the space.
Finally, participants will be able to share their thoughts and provide feedback that will help the museum improve its offer to its visiting families. The day will end with the museum offering cupcakes to its young visitors.
All events on Family Day are suitable for families with 6-10 year olds and the museum has baby-changing facilities and access for buggies.
