Hosted event -The Beit Project European Closure Event: The Consciousness of Otherness. The Unlikelihood of Liking the Unlike
On Monday 18th of November, as part of the European Closure of The Beit Project 2018-19, we are honored that Mr. Derek Perlman will give a conference about his perspectives on one of the most crucial issues in our society nowadays : how do we perceive Otherness and the permanent tension between attraction and repulsion in our relations with the Other?
Mr. Derek Perlman is the founder of Yahalom, an organization devoted to providing opportunities for parents and children from diverse backgrounds, especially immigrants, to study together value-oriented topics.
A native-born South African who has lived in Israel since 1967, M. Perlman studied Jewish Studies and Education at the University of Cape Town, and English and American Literature at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has wide experience in formal and informal education having taught in Secondary Schools, and in Universities in South Africa, England and Israel.
The Beit Project is a European and Mediterranean project on living together initiated in 2011. The project combines historical heritage with the fight against racism, social exclusion and discrimination.
