Public lecture by Professor Timothy Snyder

The House of European History has the great pleasure of inviting Timothy Snyder, a leading expert on Europe's history, to talk about the continent's shared and divided memory, one of the museum's underpinning themes, in the light of recent events. In examining some of the darkest moments of recent history, Snyder finds glimmers of hope, and principles that could lead us out of our current malaise.

Book discussion: "Les études européennes. Genèses et institutionnalisation"

8 jan 2020 (18:00 - 19:30)
Dospelí

The book " Les études européennes. Genèses et institutionnalisation ” was published in December 2018. Prepared by Professors Michel Mangenot (Paris-VIII University), Sylvain Schirmann (Strasbourg University) and Fabrice Larat (ENA, Strasbourg), it compiles the proceedings of two international conferences which took place in 2014 and 2016. By examining the conditions of emergence and the forms of institutionalisation of European studies in academia after WWII, this book develops for the first time a systematic approach to their genesis and diffusion. It also analyses the potential interactions between academia and European civil servants. Consisting of papers written by historians, lawyers and political scientists, it shows why and how an integrated Europe is also the result of politico-academic production.
